A mompreneur’s life is always on the go, leaving very little room for thinking about how to dress for the numerous activities we’ve scheduled for the day. Whether lounging around, working out, meeting a client, or going out to a dinner party, there is something for you at NVUS Napa. NVUS Napa was established in October, 2015 by Priti Jain Boyd. It is a local retail shop that serves ‘the baby boomers’ daughters’, whether they are working in a professional career or staying home with the children.
In high school, Priti had wanted to pursue fashion design in college but did not receive the necessary support from her Indian family. Instead, she worked in retail during her high school years enjoying the little bit of exposure she got to the fashion world. Priti majored in Asian studies but spent her working years in the IT industry, Priti still felt little passion for her career. So at thirty years old she revisited her love for fashion and started a fashion line in India. Her lack of experience in the industry, however, left her unprepared to successfully navigate the challenges she faced. Soon, though, she met a sales representative who taught her how to run a wholesale business, a completely different side of fashion that she grew to love. Establishing her sales rep career served its purpose pre-children, since it required so much traveling all over the country. But after having children Priti decided to focus on local retail so she could to spend more time with her family. In fact, what Priti loves most about being an entrepreneur is her ability to set her own hours.
In her business, though, Priti derives her biggest joy from building relationships with her clients. She works with these clients on an ‘appointment only’ basis, but she is working on getting a full-time sales associate so as to allow more convenience for her clients.
While Priti continues to stay current with the fashion trends, she also continues to offer ‘classic’ pieces that will never go out of style. In addition to her retail business, Priti offers a ‘closet revamping service’ to help women go through their existing wardrobe and add new items that would work with what they already have.
Priti’s favorite social media platforms include Instagram and Facebook, where you can follow her for current events and up-and-coming fashion trends. Like many mompreneurs I interviewed, social media does not come naturally to Priti, so she hired a media consultant that helped her plan a marketing strategy. So far it’s been a great investment.
Priti credits her success to having an amazing support group. Between her parents, husband, and their live-in au pair, finding sanity in the midst of her business life is more attainable now. Besides the help, the tremendous amount of encouragement she receives motivates her to continue to build her dreams and do what she loves.
Finding time for herself, however, is an important priority for Priti to stay balanced and rejuvenated. Her commitment to exercise at the gym every morning is like attending a temple. She loves taking group classes where she is surrounded by others that encourage and motivate her to be the best version of herself she can be. Sometimes, though, she will pamper herself with a quick mani/pedi visit and refresh herself with a little snooze.
Priti admits that that work-life balance doesn’t come easy and is a constant struggle. She has two children – Nia who is 7 and Viren who is 6. Both children are very active and involved in various activities, so when they are all home they look forward to simply lounging around and watching movies together. Otherwise, they like to escape to the beach for some respite or to the city to explore cultural events.
